Badminton Strings Guide

Learning about our playing equipment benefits everyone, from social players to professional players. Your string choice impacts your game but sadly many people don't know about this.

Here we present a simple guide for choosing the best string for you:

Power

Power, or as needed for strings, repulsion power is achieved through elasticity. The strings stretch and restore their original position when hitting a shuttle and generate power.
Thinner gauge strings are bouncier with a brighter sound and give more repulsion power.

Durability

All strings experience wear and tear over time and usage. But with high-quality material & make - strings last much longer. Durability mainly depends on the string gauge. Over time, the usage and tension of the racket will also affect its durability. Thicker gauge strings are more durable and will lead to lesser restringing.

Durability Strings

Balance

Balanced strings are optimized for both repulsion power and durability. They offer balanced play for powerful strikes with durability and crisp hitting sound that makes it ideal for a balanced player.

If you haven’t got the right string or tension, you’re not making the most of your playing equipment.

Spend time analysing your needs based on your game style - this helps you choose the best badminton string.

Understanding String Type

String gauge

The string gauge refers to its thickness which is the defining characteristic of a badminton string. We have a range of strings available from 0.63mm to 0.70mm.
This may not sound like a lot to the newbie but can make a significant difference in your game. Thicker strings are more durable but thinner strings offer more control.

String Feel

Depends on material properties & coating. A harder string may give more repulsion and power while a softer string may give more control.

What Badminton String Should You Use?

Playing level

A thinner string works better for pros as it gives you incredible control and ‘touch’ whereas a thicker string is better for beginners as you might not feel the real advantages a thin string might give you.

Playing style

Playing style matters because it guides what you want most from the string.
If you’re an offence-oriented player with consecutively powerful shots you may be looking for a durable string. If you’re a defensive style player you may need a string with high repulsion power. A balanced player will be more suited to strings that offer optimized control and power.

Personal preference

The answer to what’s the ‘best’ string, however, depends on your comfort and skills. Even with all these recommendations, there is no one size fits all solution! Some advanced players might go for a thick string and beginners might want to go for a thin string because they like the sound it gives or if they want to experiment with different strings.

Once you choose the right string the next step to be considered is at what tension you want the strings to be strung.
